Pro-Am Polo from Santa Maria Polo Club, Sotogrande – 2011

This Standard Definition piece (in 4:3 format) is part of our old SD video ARCHIVES…

The 2011 Pro-Am polo match was held for the second year running at Santa Maria’s Rio High Goal polo grounds. We were pleased to cover the event again with our Presenter Martine Williams.

This year the event was sponsored by Schroders Private Banking and Burren Capital from Gibraltar.

The same format as last year with 3 players on each side being complete beginners and the 4th player a Professional Polo player who had trained his team over the preceeding weeks.

We understand that some of the players had never ridden a horse before starting their training, so by any standard this was a great achievement!

The game ended in a draw with neither team being able to come out on top, despite an extra ‘sudden death’ chukka where no one scored, followed by a penalty shootout and again there was no clear winner!!

So it was decided to call it a draw!

David Deyden Dumbar from Team Management International the event organisers tells us that this is the first time in the history of this Pro-Am polo series – which is also played annually in the UK that the game has ended in a draw…
